On June 27th2024, the Biorepository team visited the Royal Norfolk Show 2024. Based in the STEMM Village again this year, the Biorepository team engaged with children and adults alike to discuss th
e purpose of a biorepository and the research we support. In addition to this, we looked to encourage people to participate in research where possible. To do this and following its success last year, we once again brought along the pipetting competition, which saw children and adults alike competing to pipette the fastest.
We also unveiled our new online consent option, making it easier for potential participants to consent for research. The new online enduring consent option will allow participants to consent to surplus, left over material from medical procedures to be used for research, rather than being discarded. Participants can now choose enduring consent and/or consent for specific samples.
Our aim was to inform children and adults about biorepositories and the research they support, allowing them to make their own informed decisions about if they would like to be part of research and how they can get involved, whether that be donating samples or participating in patient forums such as the NNUH Youth forum.
